- Grooming: The long, double coat requires frequent and extensive brushing to prevent mats and reduce shedding.
- Exercise: They need daily walks but are prone to overheating due to their flattened faces and long coats, so exercise in hot weather should be avoided.
- Health: Their brachycephalic (short-faced) structure can lead to breathing difficulties and heat sensitivity.
- Training & Socialization: Early and consistent socialization is crucial for them to be well-adjusted with others. Patience and positive reinforcement are key for training an independent Pekingese.
What To Feed a Pekingese. Feeding a commercial kibble or wet food approved by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) is a good way to make sure your Pekingese deceives a complete and balance diet.
The food you select should contain as the first listed ingredient a meat-based protein source such as chicken, turkey, beef, fish or lamb.
